Home Remedies for Eczema
Millions of eczema sufferers look for relief of the itching at all costs, but may not be aware that relief could be right in the home. Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a skin condition that causes patches of dryness and itching on the skin and is usually caused by inflammation. There are several home remedies that will help reduce the inflammation that start with diet. An eczema diet should be like an arthritis diet or any other inflammation disorder.
Following a diet to reduce inflammation is the best home remedy to begin with:
1. Fatty fish
Fish is a great source of omega 3 fatty acids which can reduce inflammation. Eating fish like salmon, sardines, trout, tuna, and mackerel will not trigger the immune system to release the compounds that cause inflammation. Omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial to all major systems in the body and are known to improve bone and joint health, as well as improve skin texture.
2. Calamine lotion
Another home remedy for eczema is using a steroid cream like hydrocortisone, which is a nonprescription cream and an anti-itch lotion such as camphor or menthol. Calamine lotion is a great example of this. These creams should be applied daily until the rash disappears.
3. Hypoallergenic soap
Cleaning the affected area with a hypoallergenic soap daily can decrease the itching of atopic dermatitis, but be sure to pat dry and not rub the skin. After cleansing, a lubricating cream or lotion should be used.
4. Eczema diet
An eczema diet should include bright, colorful fruits and vegetables. This can include apples, cherries, spinach, broccoli, and kale. These foods are high in flavonoids, which are inflammatory fighting agents.
5. Reduce stress
The best home remedy for eczema is to avoid mental and physical stress as much as possible. It important to be physically active, get the right amount of sleep, and eat healthily to maintain optimal health. Making lifestyle changes to include the above mentioned remedies will do a lot to reduce the inflammation that causes eczema.
6. Bathing and showering
The most essential remedy for this condition is to keep the affected areas clean at all times. While bathing or showering, use water that is lukewarm and not hot. Dry the body gently, patting the skin dry instead of rubbing, and moisturizing the skin entirely. Put the recommended creams or lotions on the needed area.
7. Avoid tight fitting clothing
For women, do not wear pantyhose if the legs are affected. Everyone should avoid wearing tight fitting clothing that could rub and irritate sensitive areas. Scratch as little as possible and even wear gloves at night to prevent scratching while sleeping.
