Effective tips for dry hair

Dry hair is caused when the hair isn’t moisturized well, resulting in damage. This causes the hair to lose its natural oils and it takes a toll on the texture. As a result, the hair tends to lose its luster, making it fragile and prone to split ends.

Dry hair sometimes occurs due to factors that cannot be controlled. Factors that cause dry hair are malnutrition, excess sun exposure, everyday contact with chlorinated water, excessive rinsing hair, and using harsh hair tools and products. The medical reasons for dry hair could be stress, thyroid, hormone imbalance, or anorexia nervosa.

A few tips can help one restore the nourishment of dry hair. They are as follows:

  • Hot oil massage
    Oils like olive, coconut, almond, jojoba, castor, and corn are rich in vitamin E and are great antioxidants. These oils help mask the cuticle and protect your hair from damage. It is advised to oil your dry hair at least twice in a week.

    You can warm a cup of oil and gently massage it into your hair and scalp. This helps blood circulation, encouraging healthy hair growth and relaxation. After applying it cover your hair with a warm towel for 30 to 45 minutes. Later, rinse it off with a mild or medicated shampoo. The hot oil is also known to slow aging of hair.

  • Use sulfate free shampoos
    Try to use gentle and shampoos that have mild sulfate content for dry hair. Use these shampoos only once or twice a week.
  • Gelatin
    Gelatin is a great source of protein for the body and hair. It helps the hair to stay shiny and smooth. Mix 1 tablespoon gelatin in warm water and let the mixture sit for 5 minutes or until it has set. Now add 5 drops of apple cider vinegar and 5 drops of essential oil like tea tree, cedar, lavender, and jasmine. Apply this mixture to your hair and rinse it after ten minutes.
  • Egg and mayonnaise
    Eggs are a great source of protein for the body. Eggs help strengthen the hair and prevent dry hair from being fragile and brittle.

    You can mix one egg with 2 tablespoons of distilled water and 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise. Massage this mixture against the direction of the hair growth in a circular motion. Rinse this mask after 30 minutes with shampoo and cold water.

    Another way of making this mask is by adding 2 tablespoons olive oil and 1 tablespoon honey with mayonnaise and 1 whole egg. Apply this mask to the hair and cover it with a plastic wrap. Rinse it with a mild shampoo and conditioner.

    Lastly, wet your dry hair with warm water and apply a thick mayonnaise mask. Massage your hair with egg white and cover it with a plastic cover. Remove the wrap after 30 minutes and add the egg yolk to the strands from middle to the tips of your hair. Rinse your hair with a mild shampoo and cold water.
